Frequently Asked Questions
How would your clients describe MachX?
Most clients would say:
- Easy to work with – and fair
- They take time to listen
- Give straight answers, no sugar-coating, no blabla
- Think like engineers, speak like humans
- Very determined – and care if it really works
- Smart but surprisingly low egos for consultants
What types of companies do you work with?
We mainly work with medium-sized and large companies, though we have experience across all sizes. Our work is cross-functional and not tied to a single industry. Most experience lies in manufacturing, industrials, and technology; less in trade, software, or banking. We know industrial companies very well and often support medium-sized firms. If you want to know if we can help you – the easiest way is to give us a call.
How long does a typical project take?
Most projects are longer than four weeks and shorter than a year. The majority run for a few months. There are also longer engagements, especially when we closely support implementation — in some cases up to one or two years. But those are usually not full-time; intensity varies depending on the phase. The problem has to be solved once, not forever.
What working models do you offer?
Two models:
Intensive projects – full focus from start to finish, solving a problem systematically with the client.
Stewardship / Retainer – long-term guidance with regular interventions, more like a mentor role.
In most cases, we work continuously with the client until the problem is solved. For implementation, part-time or phased support is possible.
What makes you different from large consultancies?
Large consultancies must do what all large corporations do: they need to standardize heavily to stay profitable. This means templates, processes, and approaches — but limits how deep they can go into details.
We don’t have that constraint. We adapt our approach individually, customize it to the challenge, and go into the level of detail that really matters.
Sometimes we work with companies after large consultancies have left — when many presentations have been created, but little has actually been implemented and the problem still exists. That’s when clients turn to us to make strategies concrete and bring them into execution. We also focus more on the “HOW”.
How does collaboration start?
It usually begins with a phone call — to see if it makes sense to talk further. The next step is in most cases a Problem Understanding, which is free of charge. We spend one or two days (sometimes longer for large problems) to analyze the situation and clarify the challenge. Only then do we make a tailored proposal. If we believe we can solve the problem, we move forward. If not, we say so — no risk for the client.
What does it cost to work with you?
Clients don’t come to us because we are the cheapest — they come because we solve problems. But cost depend on the engagement. We work on daily rates and are positioned in the mid-range: not as cheap as pure implementers, but not as expensive as top-tier consultancies. We only take on projects if the value clearly outweighs the cost.
How closely are you working with your clients?
Very closely. We work on site, run joint workshops, and integrate into the client team as much as possible. Collaboration is hands-on and intensive. At the same time, we remain independent and give honest feedback when something doesn’t work.
When does a collaboration make sense?
The easiest way is to give us a call but in general: A collaboration makes sense when the problem is complex, technical, and urgent — and cannot be solved with standard approaches. Typical signs:
The challenge is vague or ambiguous, and needs structure.
Technical or engineering expertise is required, or new technology is involved.
Data transparency is low and analytics are important.
Multiple stakeholders with different objectives are involved.
Speed matters because it is a critical issue.
There are also cases where collaboration may not make sense. For example, if extremely specialized knowledge is required, if the issue is simply a management decision, or if there are niche providers who are both more focused and cheaper — such as ERP specialists or vendors of specific software architectures.
